Brace Adjustment Tips

When introducing the brace to your dog, begin slowly to allow time for adjustment and comfort. Start with 30–60 minutes per session, 3–5 times per day, and gradually increase the wear time over several days as your dog gets used to it.
At first, use the brace only during active moments, such as short walks or playtime, to help your dog adapt while moving naturally.

After each session:

Remove the brace and gently check your dog’s skin for any signs of redness or irritation.
Allow the skin to breathe for a while before the next session.
• Unless your veterinarian specifically recommends otherwise, remove the brace at night to let your dog rest freely.

If you notice rubbing, swelling, or changes in your dog’s gait or posture, stop using the brace and contact your veterinarian before continuing.

Remember, every dog’s recovery and comfort level are different. Follow your veterinarian’s instructions regarding how long and how often your dog should wear the brace.

Care Instructions:
Hand-wash the brace using mild soap and cold water only.
Air dry the brace completely before reusing it.
Do not machine wash, tumble dry, or expose to direct heat.
Store flat in a cool, dry place to help preserve its shape and support.

FAQ

If you have additional questions, feel free to reach out to our support team! 💙🐾

How does a dog back brace help with spinal cord injuries or slipped discs?

A dog back brace provides stability and support to the spine, helping to reduce movement that could worsen the injury. It also aids in spinal decompression by relieving pressure on affected discs, which can be particularly beneficial for conditions like Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD).

Can a back brace help my dog recover after disc surgery?

Yes! A dog back brace is often recommended for post-surgical recovery as it supports the spine, prevents excessive movement, and encourages proper healing. It helps dogs regain mobility safely while reducing strain on healing tissues.

Is a dog back brace effective for IVDD and arthritis?

Absolutely. Dogs with IVDD benefit from a brace because it stabilizes the spine and prevents further disc compression. For dogs with arthritis, the brace helps maintain proper spinal alignment, reducing pain and discomfort caused by joint inflammation.

How does a back brace support spinal alignment?

A dog back brace gently aligns the spine by distributing weight evenly and restricting unnecessary movements. This helps relieve tension on weak or injured areas, promoting better posture and comfort for your dog.

Will a back brace completely heal my dog’s condition?

While a dog back brace provides crucial support and pain relief, it is not a cure. It works best when used in combination with veterinary care, physical therapy, and lifestyle adjustments tailored to your dog’s specific condition.

How do i fit the brace on my dog?

Our braces have adjustable straps and Velcro fasteners for easy application. Ensure the brace is snug but not too tight, allowing comfortable movement without slipping.

For more information you can view our video guide on how to wear the brace for ultimate effectiveness here

How do I choose the right size back brace for my dog?

Fico's hip braces are adjustable, but choosing the right size will ensure the best fit. Refer to the size guide provided above.

Will my dog still be able to move freely while wearing a back brace?

Yes, but with controlled movement. A dog back brace is designed to restrict excessive spinal motion while allowing enough flexibility for daily activities like walking and mild exercise. This helps prevent further injury while promoting gradual recovery.

Can a back brace prevent future injuries?

Yes, especially for breeds prone to IVDD or spinal issues (such as Dachshunds, French Bulldogs, and Corgis). By maintaining spinal alignment and relieving pressure, the brace can reduce the risk of re-injury or worsening conditions.

Is a dog back brace a cost-effective alternative to surgery?

For many dogs, a back brace serves as a more affordable and non-invasive alternative to surgery. While surgery may be necessary in severe cases, a brace can help manage symptoms, support healing, and provide relief without the high costs and risks associated with surgical procedures.
