2022 · Where it began

In 2022, a friend’s dog needed back support, but his owners couldn’t find the right one. They told Mona, and she decided to try making a brace for him herself. While wearing it, he seemed more eager to walk and began taking more steps.

His owners shared the story with a few friends. Soon, other pet owners began asking Mona if she could make braces for their dogs too. Mehras looked into the need for these supports and found that they could be especially valuable for older pets who couldn’t undergo surgery, pets recovering from surgery, and families for whom surgery was out of reach.

That’s how Fico began. We started making supports to help pets move more comfortably. Since then, the pets we’ve met have shown us how much movement matters: it lets them explore, play, and stay part of the life around them.

2024–2025 · From an idea to a workshop

We formally founded Fico in August 2024. For the first six months, Mona and Mehras focused on learning, researching materials, and understanding what pets and their owners needed from a brace. Mona led the design and product development, while Mehras built the operations and sales side of the business.

By March 2025, our first line of six braces was ready. Almost immediately, more pet owners came to us than we had expected. As Fico grew, Tuğba joined us about a year after we founded the company and now manages our production team. Today, we source the materials and make every brace with our own team in our Istanbul workshop.

Where we are today

Those first six braces were only the beginning. Today, we work with veterinary clinics across Türkiye and reach pet owners in more than five countries, including the US, Canada, and Mexico. Feedback from veterinary surgeons and other professionals helps us keep improving how our braces fit and work in daily life.

Our knee brace is one example. When we heard that it could slip after a few steps, we added a strap to help hold it in place. We also developed eight size and fit variations for different body shapes, including short-legged breeds.

We’re pet owners with aging dogs ourselves. That experience shapes how we design each brace and how we support the families using it.
